The survey, sponsored by NASA, NOAA, and the USGS, is driven by input from the scientific community and policy experts. These observations will drive future data collection and stewardship priorities and requirements in important new ways. Release of the Decadal Survey report is expected by the end of 2017.

The above-named article draws from the Survey findings to envision the future for data management and stewardship for the upcoming decade.
